Boorman Road Steep Slope Engineering and Bioengineering Stabilization (BC Ministry of Highways)

We delivered engineering designs to control water flow and the rebuilding of a large slope at the head of a ravine.

The slope had calved off leaving an undercut slope which was threatening a private property.

The overhanging soil was pulled down and the slope was rebuilt to a 3:1 slope. A pipe was installed to carry water flow to the bottom where a dissipation structure and rock armoured channel directed flows into the creek.

The final stage of this project included a Bioengineering component. We installed rows of logs across the slope at 10m intervals. Rows of willow fachines were placed between the logs and willow cuttings were placed on top of the logs. Individual willow cuttings were planted close together on the steepest areas. The whole slope was hydro-seeded and 70 bales of hay were spread over the slope.
